Description
History and Technology Innovations
Introduced in 2003, the Gulfstream featured PlaneView, a glass cockpit, a technology vision that was finally realized. Features also include four LCD displays covering the instrument panel that offers pilots a greater viewing area to see all the data sets and instruments required to fly. Gulfstream also added much-needed cabin space and significantly increased the range with the G550.
Record-Breaking Performance
The G550 is able to fly 6,750 nautical miles or 12 hours nonstop. It is also able to take off from airports with short fields and high altitudes while transporting 18 passengers.
Even though the G550 is not the fastest, it has had a record-breaking performance. In 2013, the Gulfstream set a new city-pair distance record from Haneda Airport in Tokyo to West Palm Beach Airport in Florida in 12 hours, 32 minutes. Gulfstream also set a new city-pair distance record with the G550.
Impressive Standard Features
The G550 still enjoys an impressive list of standard features starting with satellite communication, wireless internet, and an iridium phone and printer which provides the option of productive time in the air.
The Gulfstream G550 is also known as the GV-SP. It is a heavy, long-range private jet that was certified in 2003. As the most successful model in Gulfstream history, the G550 replaced the Gulfstream V with improved aerodynamics that has, in turn, led to increased fuel efficiency and range
Cabin
The cabin of the G550 can fit several living areas like an entertainment space, a private stateroom, a conference room, a crew rest area, or accommodate beds for eight people. With its 43-ft 11-in length, the G550 cabin has 14 signature oval windows to allow for lots of natural light. During flight, keep up to 18 passengers refreshed with low-altitude cabin pressure. Cabin height is 6 ft 2 in, the width is 7 ft 4 in, with 170 cu ft of baggage space.
Specifications
The G550 has set more than 50 city-pair records with a top speed of Mach 0.885 and a high-speed cruising speed of Mach 0.85. Because it can fly 6,750 nautical miles nonstop, possible city-pairs include New York to Dubai, London to Tokyo, and Shanghai to Los Angeles.
Two Rolls-Royce BR710 C4-11 engines power the G550. A PlaneView flight deck is in the cockpit and includes an Enhanced Vision System (EVS) and a Head-Up Display (HUD) which improve situational awareness for pilots.
Long-Range Gulfstream G550 Wins 2013 Best of the Best
The Gulfstream G550 features safety upgrades and technological advances such as heads-up displays in the flight deck as well as optional synthetic vision. The cabin measures almost 44 feet with the option of four distinct living and working spaces depending on the configuration. Passengers can also operate a cabin-management system using apps on their mobile devices or with wireless handheld devices.
